A fighter from Gostomel was seriously wounded and lost a leg near Donetsk: a story

28-year-old Maksym Marchenko lived in Gostomel in the Kyiv region before the full-scale invasion.
He went to the front as a volunteer. He was wounded near Soledar on August 23, 2022, according to the Nezlamni rehabilitation center.
Maksym worked as a mechanic at the Antonov aircraft factory. When the Russians invaded his native urban-type village in the Kyiv region, he managed to get his daughter and mother out.

After the deoccupation of Kyiv region, he volunteered in the 93rd mechanized brigade. Served in Donetsk region.
He said that he was injured while performing a combat mission.
“The infantry worked, and we were fire support. Everything was covered with mines, I carefully controlled my every step. I step on “clean” ground and in a moment I blow up. The mine was covered with earth“, Maxim recalls the tragic events of August 23.
Comrades provided him with first aid, then combat medics evacuated Maxim to the headquarters. When the wounded man’s condition was stable, he was transported to Dnipro, and later to Kyiv and Lviv.

“I have never met such a strong-willed, motivated and active man. His eight week numbers are excellent. He quickly masters new exercises. We mainly work on its coordination. In May, Maksym kept his balance on one leg with his eyes closed for 6 seconds, as of now it’s 60 seconds!” – says the head of the Center Oleg Bilyanskyi.

Maksym will soon receive his first training prosthesis – almost a year after the injury. He dreams of returning to his 7-year-old daughter after completing rehabilitation.
“I went to war for the sake of a bright future for our children, so that they would not see what I saw.”– adds the fighter.
It will be recalled that the miner Serhii went to the front after the beginning of the full-scale invasion. He lost a limb during a heavy battle in Donetsk region. He said that it was as if he got out of hell.
