Lviv medics performed a complex nerve transplant operation on a 44-year-old soldier who received a severe bullet wound while performing a combat mission in the Kherson Region. A man could lose the ability to move his fingers. This is reported by the First Medical Association of Lviv. Serhiy, a native of Kherson, volunteered for the army in the first days of the full-scale war. He wanted to protect his relatives who remained in his hometown. To stop the bleeding, he put a compression bandage on himself. I spent three days with her. Then the little finger and ring finger of the right hand stopped feeling. Doctors explain that this was the result of nerve damage. “There was heavy bleeding, but I simply could not leave the battlefield,” Serhiy recalls. He fought until the time when the Ukrainian military entered Kherson. Hugging his relatives, who had been under occupation for a long time, he went to Lviv for treatment. A nerve transplant operation is required. During the procedure, surgeons took a nerve from Serhiy’s thigh and transplanted it to his arm. The operation went without complications. It is too early to talk about the final success, it takes several months for the nerve to take root and the sensitivity of the fingers to be restored. “The war is not over yet, I will continue to defend my Motherland,” says an optimistic serviceman.
