Students of Ukrainian universities will be able to study a new anti-corruption discipline. Such an opportunity will appear from the new academic year. “UP.Zhyttia” was informed about this in the Integrity Office of the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption, where a training course was developed. “This is a pilot project that educational institutions could join by submitting an application and going through several stages of selection. During the academic semester, the participating universities will implement the discipline, and later it will become mandatory for all national institutions of higher education. This is enshrined in the State Anti-corruption Act program for 2023-2025,” the Integrity Office of the NAKC reported. And also – to understand the role and capabilities of citizens in the fight against corruption. The discipline “Anti-corruption and integrity” will be studied at 10 Ukrainian universities: Kyiv-Mohyla Academy; Ukrainian Catholic University; National Technical University “KPI named after Igor Sikorskyi”; Lviv National University named after Ivan Franko; Ternopil National Pedagogical University named after Volodymyr Hnatyuk; Oleksandr Bogomolets National Medical University; Volyn National University named after Lesya Ukrainka; Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs; State University “Zhytomyr Polytechnic” Chernivtsi National University named after Yury Fedkovych. “The first thing we paid attention to (when selecting universities) was the motivation of universities and their willingness to cooperate. We assessed the level of motivation based on the content of official letters from higher education institutions and during online interviews,” the Office of Integrity notes. They add that they also maintained a balance between large universities with different educational areas and more specialized ones. They paid attention to the geographical location of the institution in order to cover different cities of Ukraine. “Teachers who will teach the course are chosen by the ZVO themselves, but the Integrity Office of the National Academy of Sciences takes responsibility for training these teachers first. This summer, a two-module training for teachers will be held,” added the Office of the National Academy of Sciences. Universities will have the option to introduce the course selectively for all majors or immediately make it mandatory for students of law or social sciences. It will be recalled that the Ministry of Education and Culture and the animal welfare organization UAnimals signed a memorandum of cooperation.
