In Volyn, the court sentenced a priest who tied up a schoolgirl and threatened her with a weapon because she was picking cherries on the territory of the church.

According to the verdict of the Kovel city and district court, the incident took place on the evening of June 8 on the territory of the local church of St. Anna of the Roman Catholic Church. The priest noticed a girl picking cherries. The exact age of the schoolgirl is not specified, but it is known that she is not yet 14 years old, writes Zaxid.Net.

The priest grabbed the girl by the hands and dragged her to the garage. There, he wrapped tape around the child’s body and face so that it was difficult for her to breathe. Later, he tied the girl to a metal pipe and threatened her with a rifle. After 15 minutes of torture, the priest released her.

At the court hearing, the priest explained his actions by “excessive and poorly controlled anger towards the act of the victim, a desire to scare her and teach her.” He condemned his act, stressing that he compensated “the moral damage of the victims and apologized to her parents.”

The judge found the man guilty of violating Part 2 of Article 146 of the Criminal Code (illegal deprivation of liberty of a minor).

A negative event that happened in the life of the accused is mostly situational in nature and is an exception rather than a rule. The accused, due to the peculiarities of his condition and nervous exhaustion, in this case did not find the right reaction to the actions of the victim, which would be based on the norms of law and morality.

His reaction went far beyond the limits of adequacy. However, it should be noted that the accused obviously condemns in himself this departure beyond the limits of adequacy and is doing everything to correct the situation“, the court verdict says.

Since the priest repented for what he had done, and also compensated the child’s parents, the court sentenced him to a year of probation. He must also pay almost 7 thousand hryvnias for the examinations.

The verdict has not yet entered into legal force, so the parties can file appeals.
