Vasyl Andriiv is an employee of one of the Lviv universities who became a professor of law with only a correspondence education. As the law enforcement officers found out, the man was able to build a career as a scientist in Ukraine and Poland thanks to fake diplomas and a fictitious biography. On May 3, the pseudo-scientist was informed of the suspicion of fraud, after which he went abroad, where he continues to work as a lawyer. The journalists of “Our Money. Lviv” told more about the “professor’s” career. According to journalists, the man was born on October 11, 1963 in the village of Myshin near Kolomyia, from the age of 16 he worked as a worker at one of the local factories. On the website Who is who, which publishes “combed” biographies, it is said that Andriyev worked at a factory, and later joined the ranks of the Soviet Army. The biography states that in 1985, the man was enrolled as a student at Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University, majoring in “Legal Studies”. However, after Vasyl Andriyev was served with suspicion and accused of fraud, information about him was deleted. As the journalists established, in 1991 the man received a specialist diploma from KNU, where he studied by correspondence at the Faculty of Law. In parallel with his studies, Andriyev continued to work in Kolomyia and a few years later became the director of the “Planeta” complex and the “Hutsulshchyna” shopping center. At the age of 45, thanks to a fake diploma of a candidate of legal sciences, the man decided to get a job as a law teacher at the Lviv National University of Nature Management (LNUP). Three years later, he brought a “diploma” of a doctor of legal sciences to LNUP. Andriiyev’s career was moving upward, and in 2016 he got a job at the law department at the Lviv National University of Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnology, which he headed a year later. A year later, the academic council of the university supported the proposal to award Vasyl Andriivu the academic title of professor, and the Ministry of Education and Science approved this decision. In May 2021, on the occasion of Science Day, President Zelensky awarded Andriyiv the title “Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine”. Lviv The pseudo-scientist’s career ended there – in August 2022, the Lviv police began an investigation against Andriyev on suspicion of fraud. “After receiving confirmation from the Ministry of Education about the fake diplomas of a candidate and a doctor of legal sciences, the police turned to the administration of the veterinary university, where Andriyev headed the law department. In a few days, the academic council met, which officially included Andriyev. But at the meeting, where he was deprived the rank of professor, he did not come and soon resigned,” the journalists note. Despite the suspicion of committing a crime, Vasyl Andriyev continues to work as a lawyer, because his license, issued in 2012, is still valid. Career in Poland Among the various references that Vasyl Andriyev submitted to obtain scientific knowledge, there is a statement that in 2007-2009 he worked as a law teacher at the Higher Humanities and Natural Sciences School in the Polish city of Sudomyr. Journalists could not confirm this. At the same time, the investigators found out that since 2015 Andriyev has been teaching at the Institute of Legal Sciences of the Jan Kokhanowski University in Kielce, Poland. He works there to this day. In addition, Andriiev works at the law office “Pawel Weber i partners” (Paweł Weber i sławszownicy) in Krakow. This was confirmed by the head of the company Pavel Weber. While searching for information about the pseudo-scientist, journalists discovered that in 2009, a person extremely similar to Andriiyev (algorithms determine the similarity with a probability of about 85%) was in a joint photo with the scandalously famous activist in Lviv, Olena Zhivko, who was suspected of a large-scale scam with Polish visas. Olena Zhivko, like Vasyl Andriyev, was exposed in an attempt to forge a diploma of the Faculty of Law of KNU. T. Shevchenko. Andriyev’s biography also states that he is an honorary professor (doktor honoris causa) of the private Danylo Halytskyi University in Ivano-Frankivsk, however, the rectorate denied any involvement with the university. It is noted that it was not possible to confirm the authorship of Andriyev in more than 100 scientific works. “We found only five of his works using the Web of Science platform, and in the list of scientific works of the Vernadskyi National Library there are only three of his scientific works – on the topic of agriculture and economics,” the investigation says. Volunteering and useful acquaintances Vasyl Andriiv is now 59 years old, so he cannot leave Ukraine during martial law. From December 2022, a man uses an ID card with a disability of group 3 to cross the border. Its authenticity could not be confirmed. While under investigation, from August to November 2022, Andriyev traveled abroad through the Shlyach system, which allows male drivers (volunteers) to legally cross the border of Ukraine under martial law. The fact that the “scientist” volunteered and helped with the delivery of goods abroad was confirmed by the “Devoted and Courageous” charity fund. “He cooperated with us and was very useful for our organization, so we submitted a request for him to leave through the Shlyach system. We have not cooperated for some time,” explained the head of BF Anatoly Kozak, but did not change to explain the reasons for the termination of such cooperation . It is also known that from 2007 to 2013, Vasyl Andriyev was a freelance adviser to Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovoy. The information was confirmed by the Lviv City Council. Suspicion and investigation Currently, the pre-trial investigation is ongoing, Vasyl Andriyev is officially charged with forgery of documents and fraud. Sanctions of the article provide up to 8 years of imprisonment. According to the case materials, Andriyev paid more than UAH 107,000 in bail, so he is not restricted in his actions or movements during the investigation. It will be recalled that the Ministry of Education and Culture turned to the police due to Spartak Subbota’s alleged forgery of education documents.
