The new owner gave a valuable copy of the book “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” to a local museum in Oxfordshire, reports The Guardian. The uncorrected copy has an error in the name of the author JK Rowling – the title page reads “JA Rowling” instead of JK Rowling. A businessman from Faringdon, Oxfordshire, bought the book for 15 thousand pounds (more than 18 thousand dollars or more than 690 thousand hryvnias). He wanted to display the book in a museum to attract tourists to the region. In 1997 it was bought by St Kenelm’s Primary School in a sale for £1. “We didn’t think it had any value. But we knew from the press that the story was something special, and reading excerpts to the kids would encourage them to have their own book,” says former school principal Bob Alder. Then the trial copy remained on the shelves almost untouched. However, in 2002, the school realized that this copy might have value due to the popularity of the Harry Potter book series, so it was put away for storage. Then in 2015, the copy disappeared, only to be suddenly found this summer. The school decided to put the book on sale. She was supposed to go under the hammer with an estimated price of 15-20 thousand pounds, but did not receive such a bid. However, after the auction, interest in the specimen increased, and a local buyer agreed to a price of 15,000 pounds. “I am extremely happy to have acquired such an iconic and important text and to be able to leave it in the county for others to enjoy. The main purpose of the purchase is to increase the number of visitors to Faringdon,” said the buyer. The money raised should be used to “help students develop a love for literature,” the school adds.
