70-year-old Safina Namukwaya gave birth to twins in one of the Ugandan hospitals. She became a mother for the second time in the last 3 years thanks to in vitro fertilization (IVF).
This was reported by the BBC with reference to the International Women’s Hospital and Reproductive Center.
The woman gave birth to a boy and a girl on November 29 by caesarean section at a reproductive center in the country’s capital, Kampala.
“We achieved something extraordinary – we gave birth to twins of the oldest mother in Africa, who is 70 years old!”, – noted in the reproductive center.
Safina Namukwaya is one of the oldest women to give birth: in 2019, a 73-year-old Indian woman gave birth to twins after IVF.
A 70-year-old woman in labor noted that this is a miracle.
Ms Namukwaya told Uganda’s Daily Monitor that her pregnancy was difficult. Her partner left her when he found out she was pregnant with twins.
“Men don’t like to be told you’re carrying more than one child. Since I got here, my husband hasn’t turned up once.”she said.
The woman said that she decided to have children after she was “mocked for being childless”.
There is currently no word on whether she used a donor egg or her own, which was frozen and stored when she was younger.
We will remind you that there is also a woman in Ukraine who gave birth after menopause at the age of 66.
Now Valentina Pidverbnyi is 78, and her 12-year-old daughter Anna-Maria asked for help on social networks because of domestic violence. The court decided to take the child away from the oldest mother of Ukraine.
