About three million people die at work every year. The reason for this is work-related accidents or illnesses.

This is stated in the report of the International Labor Organization at the United Nations, presented at the 23rd World Congress on Occupational Safety in Sydney.

According to the organization, about two and a half million deaths occur every year due to work-related cardiovascular, oncological and respiratory diseases.

Another 300,000 people die due to workplace accidents, the ILO reports.

The most dangerous professions in the following industries:

  • Agriculture;
  • construction;
  • forestry;
  • fishing

The organization noted that in 2019 non-fatal injuries more than 395 million people have benefited from work.
