People’s Artist of Russia Dmitry Nazarov and his wife, Honored Artist Olga Vasilieva, were fired by the Chekhov Moscow Art Theater. The representative of the theater, Vadym Vernyk, told about it.
According to Vernyk, the decision to dismiss was made after a conversation with the artistic director of the theater, Konstantin Khabensky. The content of the conversation is not revealed.
Earlier, the publication “Moscow Komsomolets” wrote about the dismissal of Nazarov and Vasilieva without references to the sources. According to the newspaper, the reason for the dismissal of the actors could be public criticism of the war with Ukraine and “anti-Russian sentiments”.
Earlier in the week in Nizhny Tagil, the performance “The Root of Love” with the participation of Nazarov was canceled. Local residents expressed dissatisfaction with the actor’s anti-war statements on social networks.
Nazarov has served in the Chekhov Theater since 2002, Vasilyeva – since 2005.
Since the beginning of the war, actors regularly publish videos on the Internet in which they read anti-war poems.
