An American blogger was sentenced for staging a plane crash

An American YouTube blogger was convicted of intentionally crashing a plane and faking an accident.
He did it only for the sake of likes and views, reports CNN.
Trevor Jacob, 30, a former Olympic snowboarder, released a video in December 2021 titled “I Crashed My Airplane.” In it, he hinted that the plane crash was an accident.
The video shows Jacob ejecting from the plane with a parachute, holding a selfie stick in his hands. He made no attempt to steer the plane to a safe landing spot. Because of this, people in the comments began to suspect the blogger of deception.

According to prosecutors, within days of the incident, Jacob was ordered to report the whereabouts of the plane’s wreckage to the National Transportation Safety Board. However, he claimed that he did not know this.
Instead, the blogger independently found the crash site and, with the help of a helicopter, removed the wreckage from the Los Padres forest, which he later destroyed. Earlier this year, he pleaded guilty to obstructing an investigation.
Jacob has now admitted that he created the video as part of a deal to promote the online wallet.
“Most likely, he committed this crime in order to draw attention to himself in social networks and news, as well as to get financial benefit. However, such behavior of a “shithead” cannot be tolerated.” – says the statement of the Federal Prosecutor’s Office of California.
Trevor Jacob was sentenced to 6 months in prison for his crime. He said that he “sincerely regrets” his act.
“Although I carefully studied the plane’s route to ensure that the crash would not occur near human habitation or tourist routes, I should not have continued it.” – remarked the blogger.
