In the USA, a woman who was accused of murder due to an independent abortion filed a lawsuit against the prosecutor’s office. She accuses them of arresting her for two days and disclosing her name.

The woman is demanding $1 million in compensation, informs The Guardian.

Liesel Gonzalez terminated her pregnancy at 19 weeks. She took Misoprostol, a drug used in medical abortion.

After taking the pills, Gonzalez went to the doctors. The woman underwent an obstetric examination in the emergency department, but was discharged home with abdominal pain.

The next day, Gonzalez returned to the hospital bleeding. During the examination, the doctors did not hear the heartbeat of the fetus. The woman had a caesarean section to retrieve the dead child.

The lawsuit alleges that Gonzalez was harmed by the two-day arrest and media coverage of her act.

“The consequences of the illegal and unconstitutional actions of the defendants forever changed the life of the plaintiff”, – the lawsuit states.

It is also claimed that the hospital violated the patient’s right to privacy. The facility reported the abortion to the district attorney’s office, which charged Gonzalez with murder.

According to Gonzalez’s lawyer, Cecilia Garza, her client was charged illegally. Under state law, abortion is illegal, but the woman who performed it is exempt from criminal liability.

District Attorney Gocha Ramirez then announced he would drop the charges against Gonzalez after she spends at least two nights in jail and is named as a suspect in the murder.

Ramirez was fined and disciplined. The man agreed to pay a $1,250 fine and have his license suspended for 12 months.

We will remind, the number of abortions in the USA per year exceeded million. More than 60% of them were made with the help of pills.
