An infant and a 9-year-old boy died in Odesa hospitals: details

Two children – a newborn and a 9-year-old boy – died in two Odesa medical institutions. The first died in the Odesa maternity hospital, the second in the children’s clinical hospital.

As reported in the Main Department of the National Police in the Odesa region, on February 16, a local woman gave birth to two boys (twins). One of them died while being resuscitated.

Upon the fact of death, the investigators started proceedings under Part 2 of Article 140 (failure or improper performance of professional duties by a medical or pharmaceutical worker as a result of negligent or dishonest behavior, if this caused serious consequences for a minor) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

A 9-year-old boy died on February 29. It is known that he was sick and on February 23, his mother turned to doctors for help. A diagnosis of ARVI (acute respiratory viral infection) was made at the Reniya District Hospital and she was released to be treated at home.

However, a few days later, on February 27, the child’s condition deteriorated sharply. She was hospitalized first at the district and then at the regional children’s clinical hospital. The boy died there in the morning of February 29.

Due to the fact of death, the police immediately opened two criminal proceedings: under Part 2 of Article 140 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, as well as Item 1 of Part 2 of Article 115.

A forensic medical examination will be held, which will help to find out the causes of the children’s death, the police say.
