Hepatitis A is a viral disease that affects the liver and can have both a mild and severe course. The hepatitis A virus is transmitted as a result of eating contaminated food or water, due to lack of personal hygiene, as well as when an infected person prepares food for all family members.
Observing hygiene during food preparation and washing vegetables and fruits before consumption will help prevent the transmission of the virus through food products.
You should also not use water from unverified sources, and any non-bottled water should be boiled before use.
Thorough hand washing with soap after using the toilet, before eating and after contact with garbage also helps to avoid and prevent infection.
The incubation period of viral hepatitis A usually lasts 14–28 days.
Among the most common symptoms:
- weakness;
- elevated temperature;
- diarrhea;
- vomit;
- jaundice.
You can get vaccinated against hepatitis A, vaccines are registered in Ukraine and sold at the pharmacy.
We previously reported that 60 people with hepatitis A were hospitalized in Vinnytsia, and the causes of the outbreak are being investigated.
