The American Apple Corporation removed the Russian-language podcasts “Meduza” and “Cold” from its platform after its European representative office was fined by a Russian court for spreading information about the war in Ukraine.

The editors reported on this on August 5. Meduza’s daily news program “What Happened” was removed from the Apple Podcasts service. “Kholoda” has a podcast of the same name, in which audio versions of the most important materials of the publication were released. Both podcasts regularly covered the Russian invasion.

On August 3, one of Apple’s legal entities was fined for the first time for refusing to remove content at the request of the Russian authorities. “Interfax” reported that Roskomnadzor demanded to remove information “aimed at the involvement of minors in the destabilization of the political situation in Russia” and about the war in Ukraine.

The judge of the peace of court district No. 422 fined the corporation 400,000 rubles ($4,150), which is half the minimum stipulated by law. The meeting was held without the admission of representatives of mass media and the public at the request of representatives of the IT giant.

  • In March 2022, after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Apple announced the suspension of sales in Russia. The company does not update the Russian site and has limited the operation of some services, but has not announced its final exit from the market.
