The Mars apparatus of the United Arab Emirates has created a map of Mars that shows the features of the planet’s landscape.

Space.com writes about it.

A group of scientists led by New York University Abu Dhabi and the UAE Space Science Center has developed a new map of Mars that shows the geological features of the planet.

The map will help scientists answer a number of questions about Mars. In particular, why did it become dry and unfit for human life, because there used to be a lot of water on it.

Scholars say the atlas will be available in English and Arabic.

“We hope the map will be a useful tool for researchers and students who want to learn more about Mars.”– said researcher Dimitra Atri.

To create the map, scientists used data from more than 3,000 images from the Hope on-board system, taken during one year on Mars, which is equivalent to two years on Earth.

The Hope orbital system is the first interplanetary mission from the UAE and the entire Arab world.

Her images show polar ice caps, mountains and dormant volcanoes, as well as the remains of ancient rivers, lakes and valleys that were filled with liquid water about 3.5 billion years ago.

It will be recalled that earlier the Chinese rover found traces of floods on Mars that occurred more than 1.6 billion years ago.
