During the excavations of the ancient city of Okeo in Vietnam, archaeologists found the remains of spices preserved on stone tools. Scientists assume that the find may be approximately 2 thousand years old.

The most interesting thing is that the smell of some spices has survived to this day, reports The Guardian.

Scientists discovered the remains of turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. They also identified rice.

Archaeologists suggest that these ingredients could have been used to prepare curry, a traditional Indian dish made from rice and a mixture of spices.

All these spices got to Vietnam 2 thousand years ago. They contributed to the preparation of wonderful dishes that must have been enjoyed by the people of that time“, suggested Dr. Hsiao-chun Hung of the Australian National University, who led the excavations and research.

Scientists were surprised to find that the nutmeg seeds they dug up retained their aroma after two millennia.

Along with the spices, the researchers also found a large plate for grinding food. It is similar to those that are now traditionally used to prepare curry.

Previous archeological evidence indicates that curry may have been invented in India more than 4,000 years ago. At the same time, the result of a new study may indicate that curry recipes got to Southeast Asia through migrants and traders who sailed across the Indian Ocean.

We will remind, in Egypt archaeologists found ancient workshops for mummification of people and animals and new tombs that could have belonged to priests,
