In the Novgorod region, officials interrupted the performance of the Smena group because of the words “in the country of my dream, no one wants war” in the song’s lyrics. Musicians in their VKontakte group told about what happened, the editorial office of Sever.Realii drew attention to the publication.

The incident occurred on June 24. The Smena group performed at the Rokot nad Ilmenem festival near Novgorod. Before the performance, the organizers asked the musicians to sign a paper stating that they would not “promote LGBT, extremism, drugs.”

They did it. Nevertheless, when the musicians were on stage and performed the song “Land of Dreams”, a representative of the co-organizers of the festival – the governor’s project “Novgorod Summer” – approached them and interrupted the song. Backstage, he explained to the group that the song contains the line “In the country of my dreams, no one wants war.” “Smena” could not finish its concert.

The members of the group reported that they did not start a scandal. Alexander Ryzhkov, one of the organizers of the event, confirmed the incident in a comment to RBC.

“Indeed, there was such an incident. The line “In the country of dreams, no one wants war…” is a bit taken out of context, and their text was indeed provocative,” he said.

According to Ryzhikov, the organizers were afraid that the group would fall under the article on discrediting the army. The press service of the governor of the Novgorod region told the publication that the concept of the festival “Novgorodskoye leto” “does not include politics and other similar expressions”.
