On Wednesday, November 15, at the “Vokzalna” station of the capital’s metro, decorative relief boards with communist symbols were covered with wooden shields.

This was reported by the Kyiv Metro.

Architectural elements depicting Bolshevik leaders, Soviet symbols of the hammer and sickle were disguised within the framework of decommunization and de-Russification.

The subway also reminded of the special status of “Vokzalnaya”: ““Vokzalna” station is an immovable object of cultural heritage – a monument of urban planning and architecture of local importance, a work of engineering art, has a protective status and is protected by the state in accordance with the legal status of the monument.”

The decision to cover the communist symbols with wooden shields is a temporary option. In the future, the metro plans to completely dismantle all such elements. In order to obtain a permit, the company sent all the necessary letters and appeals.
