At the National Memorial Military Cemetery, which is to be built in the Fastiv district of the Kyiv region, not only military personnel, but also some civilians will be buried.

The state institution “NMVK” explained that it is about veterans who were demobilized and became civilians. At the same time, people who did not defend Ukraine in the army will not be buried at the NMVK.

About this reported deputy director of the state institution “National Military Memorial Cemetery” Yaroslav Starushchenko at the press conference of the Ukraine-Ukrinform Media Center on April 12.

“Our army now has a lot of mobilized people who were not in the military before the start of the large-scale aggression. We understand that after the victory, a significant number of people will be demobilized.

Having the appropriate status of a participant in hostilities, they, as civilians, may in the future be buried and commemorated at the national military memorial cemetery.” said Yaroslav Starushchenko.

At the same time, this does not apply to people who do not have the status of a participant in hostilities.

“There is no question at all about the burial of civilians who did not participate in the repulse of large-scale aggression, and there is no question at all about the unification of the Kyiv municipal cemetery with the military memorial cemetery.”– emphasized Starushchenko.

In general, the memorial cemetery in the Gatna community will be able to accommodate 150,000 burials, 100,000 of which are traditional, and 50,000 are columbariums.

Law of Ukraine “About burial and funeral business” defineswho can be buried at NMVK. First of all, these are fallen servicemen of the Defense Forces who participated in the protection of the territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine (since 2014).

They are also Heroes of Ukraine, who since 2014 have been awarded the Golden Star Order, Full Knights of the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi, Full Knights of the Order of Princess Olga, and Full Knights of the Order of Courage, explains Yaroslav Starushchenko.

After all, all defenders who have the status of a participant in hostilities, as well as military personnel who defended the national interests of Ukraine in the international arena, participating in UN peacekeeping missions, starting in 1991, can be buried at the NMVK.

We will remind, earlier fresidents of Akhiv dispelled myths surrounding the National Memorial Military Cemetery in Kyiv region (in particular, about deforestation and damage to the Emerald Network).
