Dark matter around the Milky Way deforms our galaxy – scientists

The Milky Way is surrounded by dark matter, which with the help of the force of gravity affects the borders of the galaxy, leading to their deformations.
Scientists from the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics came to this conclusion in a study published in the journal Nature Astronomy, writes Space.com.
According to them, the warping of the galaxy occurs mainly at the boundaries of the Milky Way, where some parts curve downward while others flare upwards.
With the help of computer simulations, astrophysicists have established that the cause of the distortion may be the dark matter that surrounds the galaxy.

“These results provide compelling evidence that our galaxy is embedded in a tilted dark matter halo”– note the researchers.
Dark matter is a type of matter that does not interact with light and is therefore invisible. Dark matter makes up 85% of the universe.
Scientists have discovered that it has a gravitational influence on the environment, in particular, it is able to accelerate the movement of stars around the galactic centers.
Before this study, astrophysicists believed that the boundaries of the Milky Way galaxy change due to interactions with other galaxies.
