Doctors used 3D plates to reconstruct the skull of a soldier who was hit in the head by a bullet

Doctors saved 48-year-old soldier Oleksiy Lytvynchuk from Volyn, who was hit in the head by a bullet and passed through his brain.
The man did not regain consciousness for three weeks. The fight for his health has been going on for six months, the National Rehabilitation Center “UNBROKEN” says.
Doctors at the center performed a complex reconstructive operation and closed the 22-centimeter skull defect with 3D plates.
“Aleksii Lytvynchuk from Volyn, he is 48 years old. In civilian life, the man was a children’s football coach. He went to war in 2014. Then he served a year and returned to peaceful life and coaching.
IN In February 2022, he took up arms again and joined the ranks of the Luhansk border detachment. Served as a machine gunner”– doctors say.

On April 4, 2023, Oleksiy was wounded in the head at a combat post. An enemy bullet hit the fighter in the forehead, passed through the brain and flew out through the back of the head.
Comrades promptly evacuated the wounded. First, his life was saved in the hospital closest to the front line, and then in Kyiv.
Intensive care doctors saved a patient who was in a coma for two months. As soon as the man’s condition was stabilized, he was sent to Lviv.
“Aleksii came to us in a serious condition with a defect in the skull and brain. The task before us was to close the defect with individually made 3D plates as soon as possible. The operation is difficult, but, unfortunately, it is very relevant nowadays. Thousands of military personnel receive similar injuries.”says neurosurgeon Andriy Batiuk.

The 22-centimeter defect in the bones of the skull was closed with modern and expensive 3D plates paid for by the state. The operation lasted 4 hours and was successful.
Due to a brain injury, Oleksiy has impaired speech and mobility of his left limbs, so a long period of physical therapy awaits him. But, according to doctors, the first successes are already there.
“Three weeks after the complex reconstructive intervention, the defenseman feels much better. He already speaks well and even jokes. Little by little, the mobility of his left arm and leg is also beginning to recover. He can already eat, sit and walk with support on his own.
All this time, his sister was next to Oleksiy. She has not left her brother for a day and fervently believes that he will stand firmly on his feet again. Oleksiy himself dreams of chasing the ball again and training children“, the doctors add.
It will be recalled that earlier medics removed a mine shaft from the body of a serviceman.
Surgeons also put a soldier on his feet, whose legs were immobilized by shrapnel.
