An unusual rough stone with growths was noticed during customs control. The employees of the institution saw organic remains on it, so they decided to send this “stone” for examination to the National Science and Nature Museum of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

Experts have established that it is the shell of a sea urchin Pygaster michelini with a tube worm Serpula sp. The geological age of the fossil is 161-165 million years. It was probably found in the Dnipro basin in the village of Trakhtemirov, in Cherkasy region.

The fossil was recommended to be included in the State Register of National Property and the Museum Fund of Ukraine.

The sender was issued a report on violation of customs rules under Art. 473 of the Customs Code of Ukraine. The find was removed pending a court decision.

“Kyiv Customs once again reminds that in order to export cultural values across the customs border, it is necessary to have a certificate from the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine”. – emphasized in the institution.
