17-year-old Mia Leimberg and her shih-tzu Bella were held captive by Hamas for 2 months. They were released during the humanitarian pause, which lasted until December 1.

“When we were there, I had to feed the dog leftovers“, the girl said in an interview with Reuters.

At the beginning of October, when Hamas militants attacked Israel, Mia and her lover were visiting relatives in the Nir Yitzhak kibbutz (city) in southern Israel.

There, the girl, along with her mother, aunt and uncle, were taken hostage. When people were loaded into the car, Mia hid the dog under her pajamas

“Fortunately, Bella is not like all the other small dogs I know. She’s pretty quiet unless she’s playing or fighting. It was an extra 4 kilos on my hands, but if I showed that the dog was bothering me, then I don’t think I’d be allowed to keep her”– said Mia after returning from captivity.

His girl called the experience what she was “he won’t be able to realize it for a long time.”

“Bella helped me a lot, she didn’t let me get bored and was a moral support”– said Mia, adding that her uncle and aunt remained in captivity.

According to the girl’s father, Moshe, Hamas fighters noticed the dog in the first days of captivity, when the captives had to climb the ladder.

However, after a brief discussion, the girl was allowed to keep the animal, Moshe says.

“Mia was very worried that something would happen to the dog if she left it”said the father.
