Legendary Italian actress Sandra Milowho starred in Federico Fellini’s film “Eight and a Half” and later became his muse, died on Monday, January 29.

The death of 90-year-old Milo was reported by her family, the Associated Press reports.
The icon of Italian cinema died in her sleep at her home in Rome, surrounded by her family and beloved dogs Jim and Lady, the family said in a statement.

In her post, Sandra Milo called the biennial “an icon of Italian auteur cinema, an unforgettable and versatile performer of both dramatic and comedic roles“. They recalled that at the Venice Film Festival, Milo presented her acting work several times in the films of such directors as Roberto Rossellini, Federico Fellini and Antonio Pietrangeli.
They also shared a photo of Milo at the Venice Film Festival, which was presented at an exhibition on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the film event in 2023.

Sandra Milo (real name Salvatris Elena Liliana Greco) – Italian actress and TV presenter, who was called Federico Fellini’s muse.
Her debut film role was the role of Gabriella in the 1955 comedy The Bachelor, directed by Antonio Pietrangeli.
The actress became famous thanks to the role of a prostitute in Roberto Rossellini’s drama “General Della Rovere” (1959).

Having met Federico Fellini, Milo starred in two of his films: “Eight and a Half” (1963) and “Juliet and the Spirits” (1965). In “Eight and a half”, which is considered one of the best films in the history of cinema, the actress played with Marcello Mastroianni, playing the lover of his character on the screen, directed by Guido Anselmi.

In total, during her career, the actress played about 70 roles in the films of many Italian directors: in addition to the aforementioned Fellini, Rossellini and Pietrangeli, these were Sergio Corbucci, Luigi Zampa, Dino Risi, Duccio Tessari, Gabriele Salvatore, etc.

Having taken a break in her career in 1968-1979 for the sake of her family, Milo acted almost until her death. One of her last works was an episode in the series “Gigilo by chance”.
