For the first time, a donor was found for a Ukrainian patient in the Ukrainian Register of Bone Marrow Donors. The benefactor shared his stem cells, the Ukrainian Register of Bone Marrow Donors reports. The donation took place at the Okhmatdyt Hospital in Kyiv and lasted about 5 hours. “Our savior was watching TV and lying in a chair, covered with a warm blanket and cared for by doctors and all the staff. And at this time, his hematopoietic stem cells were being collected by a machine into a special set,” the message reads. Until then, patients were forced to go abroad for treatment. Currently, 8,840 potential donors are registered in the Ukrainian Register of Bone Marrow Donors. Ukrainians aged 18 to 35 can become bone marrow donors. To do this, you need to register at Ubmdr.org and order your test kit. “URDKM actively promotes donation among Ukrainians and plans to integrate the Ukrainian registry of bone marrow donors into the world one. In this way, our compatriots will be able to save the lives of not only Ukrainians, but also residents of other countries,” the registry notes. Earlier we reported that blood centers lack donors with a negative Rh factor. Read also: Is it possible to be a donor after a tattoo and who is prohibited from donating blood?
