“Going out as if from hell”: the story of a miner who lost a limb during the fight with the invaders

Mining engineer Serhiy is a miner with many years of experience, who became a soldier after a full-scale invasion. A man lost a limb after a tough battle in Donetsk region. The Ministry of Health told his story. Serhiy is 34 years old, 14 of them he worked at the mine. Then there was close combat,” said the Ministry of Health. One of the brothers of the serviceman died on the spot. Another had his limbs torn off, the third, after a tragic event, Serhiy never saw again. The miner was then hit by a fragment of a grenade, which exploded at a distance of two meters. A bulletproof vest saved him from death. “They didn’t shoot at us only from aircraft,” the soldier said. Despite being wounded, Serhiy continued to “pull out” his brothers. Grenades were falling from enemy drones around the servicemen. Because of them, the miner was left without a leg. At the end of the battle, the occupiers directed their tank to finish off the living. “It was impossible to evacuate, so the defender crawled out on his own, as if from hell. In order not to bleed, he applied three tourniquets. And so, with all the injuries and a severed leg, Serhiy crawled for about a kilometer,” the Ministry of Health said. The fighter constantly received painkillers in the hospital. He hardly slept for the first four weeks, it was the most difficult period in Serhiy’s treatment. Later, the miner was transferred to the Rivne region for treatment. He is currently undergoing rehabilitation there. The Ministry of Health notes that his path was not easy, and after receiving a prosthesis, he tries to walk without crutches and fights for his life every day. This is all thanks to the zeal and indomitability of the serviceman. Serhiy has a sports bike at home, which he loves very much. He constantly talks about victory and his dreams. He wants to buy a house near the river somewhere in Kyiv region or Vinnytsia region, as well as open his own business.
