Oleg Luchyn, a 30-year-old defender from the village of Zimna Voda in the Lviv region, was hit by an enemy grenade in the direction of Bakhmut. The brothers nearby survived, but his whole body was cut: from his face to his lower limbs.

The defender lost his legs immediately, after which he fought for his life for many months.

A year ago, Oleg was mobilized to the Armed Forces, later he joined the defense of Bakhmut. At the end of August, he was seriously wounded – the enemy dropped a grenade from a drone into his trench. There were three defenders in the affected zone, but all the impact fell on Oleg.

The wounded could not be evacuated for a long time due to shelling. The tourniquets stayed on Oleg’s legs for eight hours, the body tissues began to die. Doctors at the headquarters had to amputate the limbs, the center says.

Subsequently, doctors from Dnipro, Kyiv and Lviv continued to save the defender’s life.

“The infection greatly affected the work of the lungs and kidneys. Oleg underwent a hemodialysis procedure in Dnipro. When he came to us, the work of internal organs was supported by devices.

First we had to fight the infection. And when we succeeded, we closed the soft tissue defects that arose after the amputation of the limbs.”says surgeon Maryan Kuzmak.

The defender’s rehabilitation continues. Physical therapists work with him. Another stage in his recovery is the reconstruction of the face, the soft tissues and nasal septum of which are mutilated by fragments. After that, doctors will “polish” his scars and scars.

“Above all, Oleg Luchyn dreams of getting back on his feet. And also, so that his and his wife’s family, in which a daughter is already growing up, was replenished with a son“, the center notes.
