Helped deliver speeches: Churchill’s golden denture to be auctioned in Britain

Winston Churchill’s gold dentures from the Second World War are to be auctioned in Great Britain.
The auction will take place on February 6 in the city of Cheltenham, The Guardian and CNN report.
It is expected that the prosthesis will sell for 5-8 thousand pounds. However, the amount can increase, because in 2010, 15.2 thousand pounds were paid for him.
The former prime minister of Great Britain, Winston Churchill, had problems with his teeth for most of his life – he lost several of them at the age of 20.

Dentures helped politicians deliver speeches and preserved the natural lisp that appeared in childhood. Churchill always kept a spare pair with him just in case.
It is believed that a total of up to four identical sets of prosthetics were made for the Prime Minister. One is buried with him.
These prostheses were designed by dentist Wilfred Fish when Churchill was 65 years old. They were made by technician Derek Cudlipp, who kept a spare pair in case of emergencies.
It was the spare prosthesis that was transferred to the museum of the Royal College of Surgeons in London. It has been described as a “well-fitting denture that was a crucial physical and psychological prop” for Churchill.
“It enabled him to speak effectively – a vital attribute for any politician, but especially one whose oratory was central to his success. Throughout his adult life Churchill was haunted by the fear of losing the ability to speak.” – noted in the museum.
Together with the prosthesis, the microphone in which Churchill announced the end of the Second World War will be put up for sale. Its approximate cost is from 5 to 8 thousand pounds.
It will be recalled that a 1963 Spider-Man comic was sold at an auction in the United States for almost $1.5 million.
