How many Ukrainians left their homes because of the war and who are ready to return – survey

Since the beginning of the full-scale war, 16% of Ukrainians have changed their place of residence, and 72% have stayed at home. At the same time, half of those who left plan to return home only after the end of the war, as evidenced by the results of a survey conducted by the Rating Sociological Group. At the same time, 12 % of those who left have already returned. Another 10% said they want to return home in the near future, 23% are waiting for the end of the war, 11% do not plan to return at all. Two thirds of those who do not live at home are residents of settlements in the south and east of the country, located in area of active hostilities. 72% of surveyed Ukrainians stayed at home after February 24. In particular, 8% left for this reason, another 5% left home, but have already returned. Despite enemy shelling, 87% of Ukrainians stayed at home. In particular, 2% indicated that their housing was unfit for living, 6% had partial damage, and 2% had it already restored. In 86%, housing has not undergone changes. Among the residents of the combat zone, 9% of respondents said that their homes were destroyed, 20% were partially damaged. In the de-occupied territories, 5% of respondents had destroyed homes, 14% were partially damaged, and 5% were repaired. At the same time, almost 70% whose homes were destroyed or damaged did not submit any claims for compensation. A thousand respondents over the age of 18 took part in the study in all regions, except for the temporarily occupied territories of Crimea and Donbas, as well as territories where there is no Ukrainian mobile communication at the time of the survey. The results are weighted using current data from the State Statistics Service of Ukraine. The sample is representative in terms of age, gender and type of settlement. The error of representativeness of the study with a confidence probability of 0.95 is no more than 2.2%. We remind you that according to the results of a sociological study, half of the surveyed Ukrainians imagine veterans as middle-aged people who are currently serving in the Armed Forces.
