During the full-scale invasion, the importance of all state holidays increased for Ukrainians. It entered the top five most popular Defenders’ Daywhich is celebrated on October 1.

About this testify the results of the all-Ukrainian survey, which during February 17-23, 2024 spent Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS).

Sociologists found that after the start of a full-scale war, Ukrainians began to value Ukraine’s Independence Day more. By February 24, 2022, there were 37% of them, and now – 64%.

The share of citizens who started celebrating the Day of Defenders of Ukraine almost doubled. Before the full-scale invasion, the holiday was only popular with 29%, and now it is with the middle 58%.

“High indicators for the Independence Day of Ukraine are a testimony of national pride and patriotism. The Day of Defenders of Ukraine is also highly popular, which indicates a significant respect for servicemen and gratitude for the protection and heroic struggle against the enemy in defense of the independence and sovereignty of the country.”– noted in KMIS.

In addition, according to the study, the top five most popular holidays also included:

▲ Christmas – it is celebrated by 70% of respondents;

▲ Easter – 68%;

▲ New Year – 47%.

It is noted that this year the New Year is lower on the list, compared to previous years, when it shared the first places with Christmas and Easter.

Lower positions are also occupied by the following public holidays:

▲ Constitution Day of Ukraine;

▲ International Women’s Day;

▲ Trinity.

According to sociologists, International Women’s Day has been losing popularity among Ukrainians in recent years.

If back in 2017 this holiday was one of the most popular – then it was celebrated by approximately half of the population – 49%. Currently, only 21% of citizens are such.

The statistical sampling error did not exceed 3.4% for indicators close to 50%.

We used to reportedthat 60% of Ukrainians believe that during the war it is necessary to significantly limit oneself in entertainment and shopping.
