The Ministry of Education and Science provided details on the enrollment of children who are currently studying abroad. The department explained whether the results of schoolchildren’s studies will be credited after returning to Ukraine, which subjects need to be retaken and which documents to prepare in order to continue studying at a Ukrainian school. Enrollment in schools is possible upon the application of one of the parents or legal representatives, which can be submitted, in particular, by e-mail. The child can be enrolled in the school where he studied, or in any school chosen by parents, guardians or legal representatives. How are the learning outcomes counted? Infographics: Ministry of Education and Science Education results are counted on the basis of an information certificate. Subjects included in the curriculum of both Ukrainian and foreign schools are included. In the absence of an information certificate, the child can complete an annual assessment in all subjects before the beginning of the school year or during the school year. From those subjects that the child did not study (Ukrainian language, literature, history of Ukraine, etc.), he has the right to take an annual assessment and be transferred to the next grade. The annual evaluation can be done before the beginning of the academic year or during the first semester. The form of assessment (distance or face-to-face) is chosen by the educational institution. What does the information sheet contain? The information certificate may include: student’s personal information (name, surname, date and place of birth); name of the educational institution and period of study, class; a list of subjects with an indication of the number of hours, a list of topics; learning outcomes, evaluation system; date of publication, seal, signature. Such a certificate is kept in the student’s personal file. How to transfer to the next year? The transfer is carried out in the usual manner, if the child studied: abroad and/or at a Ukrainian school remotely; “International Ukrainian School” or partner institutions; by the family form of education or on an externship at any school. What documents confirm the completion of studies? If the child received a basic/full general education abroad and received the relevant documents, they are determined by the legislation of Ukraine. If a child, while abroad, studied in a licensed Ukrainian educational institution (in particular, remotely and externally), he receives a certificate of completion of a certain level of general secondary education of the unified state model of Ukraine. If the child has not received a certificate of educational attainment, he can pass the final annual assessment at one of the Ukrainian educational institutions externally and receive a document of Ukrainian-style education. How will integrated subjects be assessed? For example, in schools abroad, instead of physics and chemistry, there may be a general subject of Science or others. Such subjects will be counted if the certificate contains a list of topics studied by the child. If not, then the child will pass the assessment on these subjects. Will foreign analogues of external examinations be suitable for admission to school? Documents of foreign testing for admission are not documents certifying the completion of studies, but are required for competitive participation for admission to institutions of higher education. The test for admission to Ukrainian universities is NMT. It can also be completed while abroad. What items need to be rearranged? Assessments are carried out on those subjects that were not taught at the school abroad. In order to determine which disciplines it should be composed of, it is worth comparing study programs. Elective subjects may be an exception. There will be different subjects for each class. Usually it is Ukrainian language and literature, history of Ukraine and geography of Ukraine. The school cannot refuse to enroll children, the Ministry of Education and Culture emphasizes. Students can take the necessary subjects for enrollment additionally and continue their studies in Ukraine. Read also: How to continue education if the child is abroad or the school is destroyed?
