UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk said that Israeli restrictions on the import of food aid “can be equated to a war crime of starving.”

“The extent of Israel’s current restrictions on aid to Gaza, the way it continues to wage hostilities, may amount to using starvation as a method of war, which is a war crime.” quotes Commissioner of The Guardian.

Official UN data show that there is currently a catastrophic famine among the population in Gaza. Its level is the highest according to the current classification system.

About the fact that the food shortage is “entirely man-made” the other day declared and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. The inevitability of famine in the north of the Gaza Strip was also discussed in reports Integrated Food Safety Classification (IPC).

Although humanitarian organizations continue to blame Israel for the blockade of Gaza, the Israeli government says it facilitates the delivery of aid to the Palestinians, and blames the UN and humanitarian groups for any problems with the quantity and pace of deliveries.

“Everyone, especially those with influence, must insist that Israel facilitate the unhindered entry and distribution of much-needed humanitarian aid and commercial goods. This will end the famine.” Turk says.

We will remind, on the morning of October 7, 2023, militants of the Hamas movement invaded to the territory of Israel from the Gaza Strip, taking control of several settlements in the border zone and taking dozens of hostages.

In response, the IDF started a counterterrorist operation against militants. On October 8, martial law was introduced in the country.

December 4 Israel Defense Forces announcedthat the state is expanding its ground operations to the entire Gaza Strip.

In February it became known that Israel prepares a large-scale operation in the city of Rafah, where the refugees moved.

After five months of war there found shelter more than half of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents.

Also earlier WHO warned about “disturbing trends” in the spread of infectious diseases in the Gaza Strip.
