A National Guard serviceman with the call sign “Komar” dreamed of combining his life with the army, but when he failed to graduate from the military lyceum, he realized that it would not be easy to fulfill his wish. The husband is from Luhansk region, but lived in Kyiv for a long time. In 2021, he went to Odessa, where he wanted to pass the selection and get into the Marines of the Armed Forces for the position of a sniper, the National Guard reports. “Komar” passed physical tests and psychological tests, however, he says that due to the large number of people willing to become snipers, he did not succeed. “There were 16 people for one position. In January 2022, he managed to take the oath, and in February he went to war. “On February 24, I changed my outfit, I just went to bed and here we are being raised on the alarm. My first thoughts were: “Well, why today?” – recalls the army man. When the Russian troops entered Chernihiv, the first battles broke out on the streets of the city. Then “Komar” assumed the position of a mechanic-driver of an armored personnel carrier. On that day, the man says, he and his comrades got into a ring in the building of the regional state administration. Everyone said that the chance was minimal. Everyone started calling their relatives, including me. We said goodbye to our parents, informed them that this would be our last fight, thanked them for coming into this world at all. What followed was a very difficult battle, which is very difficult to remember,” recalls the National Guardsman. “Komar” adds that the hardest part was seeing civilians die as a result of enemy shelling. At the same time, in Chernihiv, a soldier received his first injuries – he was burned by fragments of a mine that exploded 5 meters away. As a result of the shelling on the “Komara” armored car, all 7 wheels were punctured. “I don’t even remember how I left after all. At the turn, three or four soldiers helped me turn the steering wheel. I don’t know how I managed before that,” says the man. Now “Komar” wants to become a military psychologist to help returning soldiers from the battlefield. “I want to help all those who came from the front line, to raise their fighting spirit. I would also like to work on the front. If a psychologist works with you on the line of fire, it is much easier to endure and survive everything. I know that returning from hell you can bring a person back to a normal life, but for this you need to work with him a lot,” the man added.
