Pupils of Lyceum No. 55 in Mykolaiv want to study face-to-face, but for this they need to build a shelter at the school. Schoolgirls Darya Zhuravel and Valeriya Golikova told “Ukrainian Pravda. Life” why offline learning at school is important for them. Darya Zhuravel entered the 11th grade. According to her, online education at her lyceum is at a high level. “Online lessons are held every day according to the same schedule as in school, but still for me it is a more independent form of learning,” says the schoolgirl. Darya Zhuravel Darya is convinced that face-to-face learning is more convenient and high-quality than distance learning. “When you look at the computer screen, it’s one thing, but when the teacher is in front of you and you’re concentrating, it’s completely different. After all, during the day I’m at home, and sometimes it becomes difficult to study in a place where you rest,” says Dasha. The student also notes that sometimes there are interruptions with the Internet, which makes studying impossible. “I have the 11th grade ahead of me. I feel that it will be difficult to master all this online. Therefore, the shelter would really help the students of our lyceum to acquire higher quality knowledge and would return to the students live communication, which is so rare now,” says Dasha. Valeriya Golikova is moving to the 9th grade from September 1. She says that since the full-scale invasion began, many of her classmates and teachers have been forced to leave Mykolaiv. However, a month after the start of the great war, her school began distance learning. Valeriya Golikova “During this format of education, I encountered many problems. I did not understand the material that the teachers taught online. After the lessons, I did not sit down to do homework, because in addition to the lessons, the teachers also gave materials for independent study. This whole process took a lot of time time,” says the girl. During her studies, Valeria had great problems with light. It could be gone for several days, and then turned on only for a few hours. During this time, the girl had to do all her lessons. In addition to the school curriculum, Valeria had additional lessons that were also held online. The girl was very tired, she often had a headache and had little time to rest. “I spent at least 8-10 hours at the computer every day. It’s hard learning. Considering all these shortcomings, I realized that the offline mode is much better,” she says. Valeriya misses regular school, wants to study as before. “Unfortunately, without the shelter, we won’t be able to do that. I’m looking forward to it being built, because I want to study safely, without the fear that at any moment, terrorists can hit my school, and the students and I will not be able to escape dangers, but with shelter it becomes possible,” Valeriya says. We would like to remind you that in order to enable 3,000 Mykolaiv children to resume full-time education, you can support the fundraising for the shelter of Lyceum No. 55, which was organized by “Ukrainian Pravda” together with the savED foundation.
