In Afghanistan, the radical Islamist movement “Taliban” ordered to close all beauty salons in the country within a month. This was stated by a representative of the Ministry of Prevention of Vice and Propagation of Virtue of the Taliban administration, Reuters reports. “The deadline for closing beauty salons for women is one month,” the statement reads. The administration added that it respects the rights of women in accordance with its interpretation of Islamic law and Afghan customs. They were opened a few months after the overthrow of the Taliban regime in late 2001. After Islamists returned to power in 2021, many continued to operate with covered signs and closed windows, providing jobs for some women and services for their customers.
