However, she returned home to continue treatment. “The donor for Nastya was her 6-year-old brother Artem, who matched all the parameters. I remember when he entered the department with his grandmother, we asked if he knew why he came here, the boy answered that he came to save his sister” , – says Oksana Glukhareva, head of the Children’s Oncology and Hematology Center. She added that only in 30% of cases a relative can be a bone marrow donor. Little patients were given gifts during discharge. “We will monitor her well-being, laboratory indicators, but the main step in defeating the disease has already been taken,” Oksana Glukhareva said. Bohdan Skulskyi, the head of the bone marrow transplantation unit of the Cherkasy Oncology Center, explained that only after 2 years of active observation can it be considered that the risks of relapse are minimal. After all, the patient’s ailment is not a malignant blood disease, but a hereditary disease. The operation was performed with the support and consultation of doctors from the capital’s “Okhmatdyt”.
