In the province of Hebei in the north of China, a tourist center wants to hire a person who, in the image of the mythical character of the Monkey King, will “live” in a cave under a mountain, and tourists will feed him.
They are willing to pay $842 a month for this, CNN reports with reference to the state-run Shangyou News.
No special experience is needed for such work. The main requirements for the candidate are knowledge of the Chinese legend about the Monkey King and the ability to eat a lot of free bananas.
The Chinese legend of the Monkey King is as popular in China as the Brothers Grimm’s fairy tales in the West. This character has firmly stuck in the imagination of countless children and inspired the creation of numerous films.

The legend tells of Sun Wukong, a monkey born from stone who acquires supernatural abilities from a Taoist martial artist. Sun Wukong fights like a warrior, has a golden magic staff, and travels on clouds. At the same time, he accompanies the holy monk Tang Santsang in his “Journey to the West”.
The journey begins at Wuzhishan (“Five Finger Mountain”), where the Monkey King has been captured by the gods, angered by his youthful arrogance. Tan releases him and they begin their adventure. However, a job candidate in the scenic Wuzhishan area, unlike the legendary character, will have to stay put.

His official duties require him to wear a mask and a monkey suit and hide in a cave under a mountain, and when the children come to eat apples, noodles and lots and lots of bananas, which they will treat him to.
“The candidate must have a passion for Sun Wukong, a certain acting talent, the ability to be lively, cheerful and approachable to tourists,” – they say in the tourist center.
They have already hired two employees for the role of this character. Now they are looking for another one.
