French schools sent dozens of girls home wearing Muslim abayas on the first day of the school year. This is reported by The Gurdian. Abaya is a long, traditional Arabic women’s dress with sleeves. Additionally, an association representing Muslims petitioned the Council of State, the country’s highest court, to review the abaya ban. The court ruled in favor of the state. The Council of the Muslim Faith of France fears an increased risk of discrimination. Muslims are already excluded from the political life of France. Representatives of the minority in this country fear that the authorities will not be guided by clearly defined parameters of prohibitions, but will rely on their origin and religion to limit rights and freedoms.
