In Lviv, a 5-year-old boy fell into a coma after an operation to remove milk teeth. Later, doctors declared brain death.
The boy’s parents, bandurist Viktor Pashnyk and his wife Marianna Vakhniak, blame the dental clinic, and the police have opened a criminal case.

Viktor Pashnyk said that his son Veles experienced clinical death during general anesthesia. Later, the child was diagnosed brain death.
The couple blames the dental clinic for this. On December 17, the parents appealed to the police of the Railway District of Lviv with a corresponding statement.
“On December 17, investigators began criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 140 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – “Improper performance of professional duties by a medical or pharmaceutical worker”.

According to Viktor Pashnyk, on December 8, employees of the dental center offered to perform an operative intervention to remove his son’s milk teeth under general anesthesia.
“Everything was wrong from the very beginning, my son was crying a lot, he didn’t want to put on the anesthesia mask…
Some time after the start of the operation, the wife heard a commotion in the operating room, medical workers began to rush there, after about 20 minutes, two emergency teams arrived.”– writes Viktor.
Marianna Vakhniak was informed that during the operation, the child’s heart stopped, which the doctors managed to start. They added that the child is being transferred to the intensive care unit of St. Nicholas Hospital.
“We already learned from the doctor of the department of anesthesiology and intensive therapy of the St. Nicholas Hospital that the situation is critical and that the son is in a serious condition.
The doctors reported that during the dental surgery, our son was clinically dead and the doctors carried out resuscitation measures for too long, which led to the serious condition of the child.”– says Viktor.
According to doctors, the child’s brain is dead. Now his life is supported with the help of devices.
The boy’s parents call on the authorities not to remain indifferent to the tragedy.
“The medical director of ORI GROUP LLC, excusing the doctors, said how well they did, that they did everything on time, resuscitated.
But that’s not true, because if everything was right and on time, wouldn’t our son be on the verge of life and death now, wouldn’t the doctors have declared brain death?” Veles’ parents say.
“UP. Life” contacted the dental clinic, but they refused to comment.
Background: Brain death is a condition in which the brain is irrevocably dead, but the functioning of the heart, blood circulation and breathing are artificially supported by resuscitation measures. When a person is disconnected from the devices, he is legally recognized as dead.
