Lviv cardiac surgeons saved a baby with a rare heart defect, which occurs in 3% of all children with defects. The girl Marichka was transported from Transcarpathia, she was breathing through an artificial respiration apparatus, without which she simply would not have survived, reports the First Medical Association of Lviv. The 24-year-old mother of a small patient was preparing to be discharged from the maternity hospital in Mukachevo. But on the third day, during the examination, the doctors heard a murmur in the child’s heart and began her resuscitation and transportation to Lviv. The hospital diagnosed critical aortic stenosis (problems with the heart valve), which occurs in only 3% of all children born with defects, and decided on urgent surgery. Marichka is saved. The opening of the heart valve was so small that the left ventricle had difficulty contracting and was beginning to fail. Specialists decided to operate in two stages. First, the function of the left ventricle of the heart was stabilized: through a small puncture of the artery on the leg, a catheter with a balloon was introduced. Immediately after the intervention, the fraction of the left ventricle returned to a normal level. However, the child was still on a ventilator. A successfully operated baby. In order to save Marichka, doctors decided to perform a surgically extremely complex Ross-Connot operation (heart valve replacement), which took more than seven hours. The postoperative period was difficult. On the eighth day, Marichka was disconnected from the ventilator.
