Doctors made two-year-old Matviy from Ivano-Frankivsk an artificial bladder made of large intestine tissue.
This is a very complex reconstructive operation, which is carried out by units in the world, according to the Ministry of Health.
The boy had bladder cancer, which occurs in only 1.4% of childhood oncology cases.
Last winter, oncosurgeons and urologists of the St. Nicholas Hospital of the First Medical Association of Lviv, together with colleagues from Ivano-Frankivsk, performed a laparoscopic removal of a 10 cm tumor in a boy. Along with it, they had to remove the bladder, prostate and part of the rectum.

To remove urine, the baby had a stoma installed: a hole was made in the stomach and a fragment of the intestine was removed.

After the operation, Matvii underwent several more courses of radiation and chemotherapy. When the boy went into remission, the child was given an artificial bladder so that he could go to the toilet naturally. The organ was formed from the tissues of the large intestine and the ureters were sewn into it. Now the urine flows into the newly formed tank with a valve.

On the fourth day after the successful operation, Matvii returned home from Lviv. The boy is doing well now.
