Lviv surgeons removed a dangerous tumor from the lungs of a 68-year-old patient. The formation could permanently paralyze her.
As reported in the First Medical Association of Lviv, a year ago Hanna Kurii’s legs started to hurt. During November, the pain became unbearable, the patient could not even sleep, and the medicine did not help.
When specialists examined the woman, they discovered a tumor in the pleural cavity. It occupied a third of the lungs.
“The giant formation grew into the spine and began to press on the nerve endings of the spinal cord, which caused numbness in the legs. Tumor type – neuroma This is a neoplasm that originates from nerve endings and is mostly benign. The danger of neuroma is that it grows for a long time and without symptoms“, the medical facility notes.

Based on the size of the tumor, specialists determined that it had been growing for 19 years. Because the neuroma had grown into the woman’s spine, it could have permanently paralyzed her.
Tumor removal lasted 4 hours and was successful. On the second day after the operation, the woman was transferred to a regular ward, and a week later she was discharged.

“Most of all, she was afraid that the neoplasm would confine her to bed and she would become a burden for her own children. Now the woman is happy that everything ended well. She still has the ability and strength to visit children who live in different parts of Ukraine to entertain her grandchildren. Ms. Hanna has as many as eleven of them“, the post of the medical facility says.
