Border guards of the Izmail detachment caught poachers with a killed beluga weighing 124 kg, which is listed in the Red Book. The boat was stopped at the Starostamboul mouth of the Danube River, near the town of Vylkove, the State Border Service reports. There were two people in the boat. The prohibited fish was already dead and had signs of a blow to the head. The beluga weighed approximately 110 kg and had about 14 kg of black caviar. The offenders were escorted to the border unit. The border guards seized the fish, poaching boat and fishing gear pending a court decision. The poachers were reported to the police for illegal fishing.
