In the Poltava region, a woman who set fire to the alleged lover of her roommate was put on trial. The murderers were sentenced to 6 years in prison, according to the decision of the Orzhysky district court of the Poltava region. The accused suspected her roommate of treason, went to her “rival”, doused her with gasoline and set her on fire. The woman died of burns. The tragic incident happened in the summer of 2022. The accused said that on July 2 she found her de facto husband at the house of the deceased and suspected her partner of treason. She hit her alleged lover in the face, and she began to insult her. This angered the woman, so she decided to scare and warn her “rival”. While lighting a cigarette, the accused dropped a match and set fire to her victim’s blanket and sweater. “Having entered the middle of the house, (the woman) saw (the mistress) on the bed and, in order to further implement her criminal intent, she doused (the victim’s) face and upper body with gasoline, which she had prepared in advance, then lit a match and held it in the latter’s direction.” – the decision states. Gasoline ignited on the woman’s body. Then the girl threw the blanket off the victim and suffocated her, and the victim threw off her sweater. The women went out into the yard, where the alleged “mistress” allegedly insulted the accused again, took out her clothes and did not ask for help. According to the conclusions of medical experts, the victim received a thermal burn of the 1st-3rd degree with a total area of up to 35% of the body surface, with the development of a burn disease. The fire touched the skin and soft tissues of the head, neck, chest, left and right upper limbs – severe injuries led to death. At the same time, immediately after the arson, the victim was still alive and was active for some time. The victim’s sister told the court that she came to the scene the same day. “She saw that her sister’s belongings were lying in the yard, and her apartment was full of smoke. (The victim) was lying in the apartment, her hands and face were blistered, her face was black and there was little hair. She said that she was burned ( She explained that she has no material and moral claims, but she wants the accused to be punished with imprisonment for ten years,” the case states. The accused determined guilt under Part 2 of Art. 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. She said that she sincerely repented and asked not to punish her severely because of her illness. The court imposed a punishment under Part 2 of Article 121 with the application of Part 1 of Article 69 of the Criminal Code – 6 years behind bars.
