In the town of São Lourenço do Bairr in Portugal, more than 2 million liters of red wine flowed through the streets. It caused the explosion of two tanks at the Levira distillery, according to the local publication Diário de Aveiro. On September 10, the local authorities announced an environmental alarm due to a large-scale spill of wine: it flooded the main and adjacent roads, a field and entered the basement of one of the houses. The fire service blocked the stream and diverted it from the Sertima River to avoid its pollution. The competent authorities are investigating the causes of the incident. 🇵🇹 Levira distillery turns the streets blood red after 2 tanks of wine spill out in #Portugal#flood pic.twitter.com/l5VMAdQSo1 — Attentive Media (@AttentiveCEE) September 11, 2023 “We take full responsibility for the costs associated with cleanup and damage removal. Our crews will resolve this situation as soon as possible,” the company said. The factory workers apologized to the residents and dug up and removed the wine-contaminated soil.
