In South Korea, a day before the premiere, the ballet show of the leading dancers of the Bolshoi Theater of Russia was canceled. The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs specified that the second consecutive cancellation of Russian performances was achieved thanks to the efforts of the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Korea and the support of the Ukrainian community.

The show’s cancellation was announced by the organizer on Monday, April 15 Reuters.

This happened after a ballet performance by a Russian prima ballerina of Ukrainian origin was canceled in Seoul in March Svetlana Zakharovawho is an active supporter of Vladimir Putin.

At the time, it was reported that the show called Modanse, in which Zakharova played the main role, depicted sketches from the life of the French designer Coco Chanel. Performances were scheduled for April 17-21 at the Seoul Arts Center.

After the cancellation of the show with Zakharova, one more Russian touring show remained: “Gala-concert of the Bolshoi Theater”which was scheduled for April 16-18 and was to take place at the Sejong Performing Arts Center.

These performances originally included 12 principal dancers from Russia’s Bolshoi Theater. Later, the program was changed to reduce the number of Russian performers. And the day before, the show was canceled altogether.

The Russian embassy in South Korea reacted to the cancellation of concerts by Russian dancers: “We cannot help but notice that South Korea is currently showing a certain trend in its approach to cooperation with Russia and in the cultural sphere“.

In turn, the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that this became possible thanks to the efforts of the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Korea and the support of the Ukrainian community and international partners.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs called the cancellation of Russian shows in Seoul another step for the international isolation of the Russian Federation in the field of culture. “Russian “cultural” propaganda should not have a place on international platforms, but Russian ballerinas should on the stages of world theaters“, the ministry added.
