In St. Petersburg, the chief director of the Alexandrinsky Theater was replaced

In St. Petersburg, the chief director of the Alexandrinsky Theater, Nikolay Roshchin, was dismissed from his post. Earlier in his play “Cyrano de Bergerac” the audience saw “the discrediting of the Russian army”. After that, the scheduled showings of the play were canceled despite the fact that the police found no signs of a crime.

The artistic director of the theater, Valery Fokin, told TASS that Nikita Kobelev will be the new chief director. According to Roschyn, he will be able to continue working in the theater as a full-time director and set designer.

Nikolay Roshchin – Honored Artist of Russia, laureate of the main Russian theater award “Golden Mask”. He has held the position of chief director of the Alexandrinsky Theater since 2016.

• In April, the audience of the theater turned to the police with a request to check Roschyna’s play “Cyrano de Bergerac” for the so-called discrediting of the Russian army. According to the actors of the theater, the inspection did indeed take place, but did not reveal anything suspicious. The play “Cyrano de Bergerac” was written by the French playwright Edmond Rostan in 1897 and tells about the Parisian poet’s love for his cousin Roxane, to whom he is afraid to confess his feelings.
