In Sumy Oblast, a 10-year-old girl, Nikita, saved her younger brothers and sisters from a burning house. The State Emergency Service was told about the child’s heroic deed. The fire happened on April 7 in a private house on Panteleimona Kulish Street, where a large family lives. At the time of the fire, the parents and children were not at home. “I was sleeping with my youngest sister. Then David runs up to me and says: ‘Nika, it’s on fire,'” the girl recalls. She said that she tried to put out the fire by herself, but stopped trying when she felt a slight dizziness. “I wet my sleeve and rushed to save the smallest – Bohdana and Sasha. I carried them in my arms,” says Nikita. The youngest are 1 and 4 years old. The girl adds that the 5-year-old brother ran out of the house alone. The neighbor Mykola was the first to help. He took the smallest child over the fence, which Nika handed over. Then to a couple from another house came running to the house. They responded to the smoke, flames and children’s screams. They began to break the fence to get the children out of the fire trap. When the structures of the house had already started to fall, Nikita returned to take the smaller child. She covered the little boy with a blouse and took it out into the yard. After that, the house was completely engulfed in fire. “Five minutes after the notification, rescuers arrived at the scene and began extinguishing the fire. “Furniture, household appliances were on fire in the house, and the fire spread to the roof and ceiling,” the rescuers reported. The rescuers noted that the fire spread quickly, but the fire was extinguished and the fire was not allowed to completely destroy the house.
