Russian stand-up comedian Danyla Poperechnyi said that at a concert in Tashkent, his microphone was turned off “every time a joke or topic even indirectly related to the current agenda.”

Poperechny noted that even a joke with the word “Russia” was cut from the concert. According to eyewitnesses referred to by the local Gazeta.uz, the stand-up comedian’s microphone was turned off when he started talking about the war, Russian President Vladimir Putin and politics.

“As a result, at least 50 minutes of the material was “jammed” at the behest of local law enforcement agencies. I felt at home,” Poperechny wrote.

He apologized to the audience and said that he was ready to return the money for the tickets.

  • After the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Danyla Poperechny temporarily left Russia due to threats and fear of arrest. Now he is touring countries with his new program. After Tashkent, he has two concerts planned in Turkey.
  • Poperechnyi repeatedly expressed himself on political topics, both during his speeches and separately from them. He criticized Putin and other Russian officials, spoke at opposition rallies.
