A 49-year-old man who stole a church box with donations for the military and people in need of financial assistance was arrested in the Lviv region.
The abbot of one of the local churches reported the theft to the police, the Zolochiv District Police Department reports.
Priests and parishioners initiated the collection of funds, and for better accessibility, the box was installed in the city center on Chornovola Square.
“Through the conducted measures, the operatives of the criminal police established that a 49-year-old local resident was involved in the crime.
The law enforcement officers seized the stolen donation box from him”– say the law enforcement officers.

The exact amount stolen from the box is not known.
The man was informed of the suspicion under Part 4 of Art. 185 (Theft) of the Criminal Code.
The maximum punishment stipulated by the article is up to 8 years of imprisonment.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. Soon, the court will choose a preventive measure for the detainee.
